original name is “Goxheim”. The ship was built as a motor cutter in 1940 in Hatlestrand in Hardanger. The name of the boat builder was Bård Gjerde. She has never before been rigged as a sailing ship. In her time as a fishing and cargo boat, she had her sailing area from the Varangerfjord in the north to France in the south.

During the last years, there has been performed a rather extensive reconstruction of S/Y Goxsheim. From the original vessel, only the hull and the deck remain. Shipyards and boat builders have performed most of the works. During autumn 1999 the engine was changed into a Volvo Penta TMD 100 C. Also a new propeller shaft was installed and the propeller changed.

Astern there has been built a deckhouse containing a deckhouse lounge and an aft cabin. Amidships a new, large poop with a skylight has been built. Under this the galley, lounge, bathroom and sauna is situated. In the forepart we have the 4 small (1 double and 3 twin) cabins and a toilette.

The heating of the ship is from hot water circulating in radiators and the flooring. This creates a rather pleasant climate on board. If you should be in need of more heat, it is possible to make a fire in the wooden fired stove in the lounge. And if that should not help – get in the sauna!

The ship is a gaff rigged Hardanger cutter, and the total sail area is approximately 290 m2 on 7 sails: staysail, 2 jibs, mainsail, mizzen sail and 2 topsails. The building of the rigging for the vessel was done during autumn/winter 2001 at Solombola Shipyard in Archangelsk, Russia. The mounting of the rigging was done in Vadsø, Finnmark, in January 2002 in minus 15-20 degrees C by 3 workers (Leonid, Viktor and Dimma) from the shipyard! The sails were sewn by Sail Service in Gdansk, Poland, during May 2003.

The main mast is 24,5 m above sea level, and for those of you who want to enjoy the view – get into the crows nest that is mounted 21 m above sea level…….
